Involvement
Just like your home and
mine, Epworth has needs throughout the year. There are several
special ways individuals, churches, and businesses may become
involved:
Financial Contributions:
The most fundamental way a person can help the children of Epworth is to make a financial contribution to help feed, clothe and educate our residents.

Birthdays:
Cakes, ice cream, and gifts are an integral part of every
child’s life, including Epworth children. Churches and
corporations may choose to sponsor our birthday program by
providing gifts and goodies, or the means with which to do so.
Back To School:
Preparing 100 children for going back to school is quite a task
every year. Clothing, books, shoes, composition books,
calculators, graph paper, pencils, three-ring binders and
dictionaries are some of the necessary provisions. At an average
cost of $300 per child, Epworth spends at least $30,000
annually.
A church or corporation may elect to fund this program in its
entirety, or Epworth will be glad to provide a wish list for
each child (similar to the Christmas program).
Volunteers:
Epworth has a volunteer force numbering 1200 annually.
Individuals and groups are encouraged to contact our activities
program if they would like to help in any way at Epworth.
Cottage Sponsorship:
There are ten cottages on Epworth’s campus. Each cottage is
residence to ten children. Outings, special treats and trips,
and friendships are made possible by those who sponsor cottages.
This may be done financially, by providing needed items, or
hosting special events (skating, bowling, fun park, parties,
etc.). This choice often gives individuals the chance to bond
with the children they are sponsoring.
Handy-Man (Woman) Help:
Cottages need constant attention. Currently, all ten cottages
need sprucing up. Cost estimates indicate an average of $5000
needs to be spent on each cottage (for a total of $50,000) to
paint and make necessary repairs. Again, financial assistance is
needed as well as able-bodied volunteers. |
