“You have rescued me/ Sing it out Jesus is alive/ The empty cross, The empty grave/ Life eternal You have won the day/Shout it out Jesus is alive!”
At Epworth Memorial, we sing this song, “Happy Day” by Tim Hughes, which is about the greatest day in history, the day Jesus Christ was resurrected. Easter Sunday is a day to celebrate our living Savior and the abundant life which we receive from Him. This Easter was an especially awesome day at Epworth Children’s Home.
As the sun was just beginning to peak over the horizon, the children arrived at the cross outside of our church on campus. Most of them were still in their pajamas, sleep in their eyes, when we greeted the new dawn together. The coolness of the morning wrapped around us as we reflected on what it might have been like that first Easter morning for Jesus’ disciples who discovered the empty tomb. After our sunrise service we enjoyed breakfast together in preparation for a full day of celebration. That afternoon we had a wonderful Easter Baptism Service. The church was packed with friends, family, staff and volunteers. During the service, we baptized 11 children, 10 of our residents and my son Isaac. Seeing the waters of baptism running down the faces of the children and experiencing their eagerness to begin their new life with God, was joyous!
Easter Sunday at Epworth truly was a celebration of new life. The energy and excitement of the day was exactly what you would expect when celebrating the greatest day in history! We are so thankful for the support of everyone who makes it possible for our children to experience God’s overflowing love and Jesus’ promise of life. By supporting Epworth Children’s Home you are truly participating in the mission of the United Methodist Church by helping us to make disciples for Jesus Christ.
Still celebrating,
Rev. Megan Gray
