Expect A Helpful, Compassionate Response
An Epworth Kinship Family Advocate will take your call. He or she will ask a few basic questions, then ask you to explain a bit about your circumstances and how you came to have temporary custody of a relative or friend’s child. We know that kinship care can be stressful and uncertain, and we hope you will find it a relief to talk to someone equipped with knowledge of services that may help.
You will be invited to set up an appointment at the nearest Epworth Kinship Resource Center in the Midlands or Pee Dee. There, you’ll meet with an advocate to see if you may qualify for financial and other types of assistance.
The helpline hours are 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

You’ll Meet with an Epworth Kinship Family Advocate in Person
Epworth operates three Kinship Resource Centers where you can meet with an advocate. Our centers are located in:
- Columbia
- Lexington
- Darlington
At the appointment, you will tell the advocate about your situation and needs, and he or she will work closely with you to determine how Epworth can best help you provide the child in your care with everything they need.

- Financial assistance through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
- Help applying for legal guardianship
- Child and/or family counseling
- Food, diapers, formula, clothing, hygiene products and more from our resource closet
- Notary services
- Office services such as copying, scanning and emailing documents

Obtain Items You Need – At No Charge
In the same place you meet with an Epworth advocate, you can shop – at no charge – at one of our three resource closets, called Katrina’s Klosets. The stores are stocked with supplies for kinship foster children. Items in stock at each location vary, but in general, you will find:
- Clothing and shoes for babies, children and teens
- Hygiene supplies like toothpaste and soap
- Baby formula and diapers
- Car seats, baby strollers and cribs
- Bicycles and toys
- School supplies
