Epworth’s Intensive In-Home Services Program (IIHS) is a 4 to 6 month program that provides an array of services and support to families who are involved with the S.C. Department of Social Services (SCDSS). The goal is to strengthen families and resolve crises.
Through in-home counseling and other behavioral health services, IIHS counselors work with families to increase effective parenting, communication, and coping skills.

- Evidence-based treatment models including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Together Facing the Challenge (TFTC), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Program Stages and Duration
- Assessment (7 calendar days; 6-8 hours per week)
- Immersion (6-8 weeks; 6-8 hours per week)
- Emersion (3-4 weeks; 4-5 hours per week)
- After-Care (4 weeks; 2-3 hours per week)
Eligibility
- Family must reside in Richland, Lexington, Kershaw, and/or Fairfield County.
- Families are referred by SCDSS.
- Family permanency is a viable option.
- Less intensive services have been exhausted and/or are not appropriate.
- Parents/caregivers are willing to participate in services.
Make a Referral
- County case managers for the S.C. Department of Social Services (SCDSS) are asked to send referral information to Epworth’s IIHS via this link: https://forms.office.com/g/WSLyi4JiSB or by clicking the button below.
- Upon receiving a referral, Epworth staff will review and assess the referral for appropriateness.
- Epworth’s program supervisor will contact the referring case worker within 24 hours to confirm the case status.
- If the client is accepted, Epworth will reach out to the family to schedule their initial assessment.

Homebuilders
Epworth is also the state administrator for HOMEBUILDERS, the oldest and best-documented Intensive Family Preservation Services (IFPS) program in the United States. The program provides 40 hours of direct in-home service to families over 4 to 6 weeks.
Center for Counseling
Epworth offers outpatient counseling for children, teens, adults and families in the Midlands and Upstate. Our licensed therapists specialize in treating mental, behavioral, and substance use concerns. We also offer parenting classes.
Circle of Parents
Epworth coordinates and administers Circle of Parents groups throughout the state. The parent-led groups provide strong support and a sounding board for parents and other caregivers of children.
